The investment opportunities in South East Asia continue to expand on Mintos, as we are pleased to announce the launch of a new loan originator – Kredit Pintar, the market-leading consumer lending application in the region.
Based in Indonesia, Kredit Pintar originates micro consumer loans using an artificial intelligence-based risk management platform. The company was launched in 2017 and has experienced exponential growth to include 600 employees to date, achieving profitability since 2018.
The company is on a mission to promote financial inclusion among the underbanked in developing economies of Asia. Currently, Kredit Pintar has operations in Indonesia and the Philippines and is expanding into Vietnam and India with much greater product and geographical diversification.
Kredit Pintar is backed by reputable VC and PE investors, including GSR Ventures, Vision Plus Capital, Provident Capital, and Northstar Group.
Risk Management as a Core Capability
To date, Kredit Pintar has cumulatively disbursed close to 4.5 million loans worth more than USD 300 million. On a daily basis, the Indonesia-based platform issues more than 12,000 loans. Its application has been downloaded more than 5 million times, surpassing several of the industry’s early entrants.
Despite its growth momentum, Kredit Pintar adopts a strict underwriting standard and risk controls to safeguard the investor’s interests. Leveraging on Artificial Intelligence technologies to detect frauds and assess creditworthiness, Kredit Pintar for instance checks against a potential borrower using fake ID cards, or borrowing on multiple lending platforms. Exposures to local currency fluctuations are also risk managed.

According to Kredit Pintar, it has decided to launch on Mintos to bring investors based in Europe and beyond investment opportunities in the ASEAN region (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), with superior risk vs reward combinations.
